pelican by Ken Groezinger-1These two photos were taken in Thomson at the U.S. Corps of Engineers' Public Use Area, known locally as "The Causeway" or "Potter's Marsh". 

The photos were taken April 24, 2013 and show a relatively new phenomenon:
American White Pelicans have begun migrating to this area of the Mississippi River and are now nesting here and can be seen regularly on the river and majestically soaring in groups high in the sky.  In addition to the American Bald Eagles, they are one more reason visitors will love coming to Thomson.
